What Causes Polyuria with Chronic Renal Failure

In general, with the progression of Chronic Renal Failure, the urine output will decline gradually. However, in some cases, the patients may experience polyuriaduring a period. What Causes Polyuria with Chronic Renal Failure?
Urination is a normal physiological activity which excreting the metabolic products out of body. The more the urine output is, the more metabolic toxins are excreted out of body. However, for the patients with Chronic Renal Failure, although they have polyuria, the metabolic toxins in urine do not increase at all.
In fact, the urine is mainly composed of water and metabolic products. In Chronic Renal Failure, the glomeruli are impaired seriously. However, the water can be filtered out of the glomerular filtration membrane very easily and the filtered solution (initial urine) can be as much as 100 L in a day. When the initial urine flows through renal tubule and collecting duct, most of the urine will be reabsorbed by them. Finally, the urine output is about 1500 ml per day.
In Chronic Renal Failure, the glomerulus as well as renal tubule is damaged or the renal tubule is firstly impaired and then the damage spreads to the glomeruli. As a result, the water can not be reabsorbed normally as before and the water content in urine increases. However, the solute concentration of urine is very low. Therefore, the metabolic toxins excreted declines obviously.
Therefore, in some cases, the patients with Chronic Renal Failure may experience polyuria. In this case, the urine osmotic pressure and specific gravity has obvious decline. In severe case, the patients with Chronic Renal Failure may stay in dehydration.
Therefore, the polyuria in Chronic Renal Failure is not a good thing for them, but may be a sign of disease aggravation.
