Chronic Kidney Failure and Sexuality

Chronic Kidney Failure is a syndrome caused by the gradual decline of chronic renal disease and renal function which seriously affects people's health. It manifests systemic symptoms. Sexual dysfunction is common in renal failure patients. Generally speaking, the hyposexuality and sexual dysfunction are consistent with the severity of uremia. 90% man with renal failure and 80% women with renal failure will suffer sexual problem. 80% man is likely to get impotence. There is no improvement in sexuality in uremia patients after undergoing hemodialysis. Reports indicate that people who have kidney transplant lasting for 3 years can recover from sexuality dysfunction to have a normal sex life. However, successful kidney transplant can not completely resolve the sexual problems. Here are the reasons.
1. Hormone. Women with Chronic Kidney Failure often experience some symptoms including amenorrhea, hypomenorrhea and even aciesis. In man patients, they may have orchiatrophy and there is difficulty in producing sperm. Even though they begin hemodialysis, there is no improvement in sexual problems. The testosterone level can become normal in several months after kidney transplant. Although sexual desire increases, the erection and ejaculation can not be improved.
2. Nerve. Uremic encephalopathy is one of causes of sexual problems.
3. Complications and medicines. Anemia and electrolyte disturbance which are the common disease accompanied with Chronic Kidney Failure patients can cause loss of sexuality. Because renal failure patients often have high blood pressure, they need to take hypotensor which however, can damage the sexual function.
4. Psychology. Uremia is a life-threatening disease so that patients and the family feel terrible. Patients may lose confidence toward life. They feel negative. The emotion can influence the sex life.
